About Crooks Studio Art24

Crooks Studio Art 24 is the creative practice of Brisbane-based artist Troy Crooks, founded as a space to explore the intersection of material, emotion, and philosophy. Working across sculpture, painting, woodworking, and ceramics, I use my studio as a site of experimentation — where craftsmanship meets intuition and each work evolves through process and reflection. My art is shaped by a fascination with psychological and symbolic themes, particularly the balance between control and chaos, and the dialogue between the inner and outer self. Every piece created in Crooks Studio Art is a conversation between materials and meaning — an exploration of transformation, tension, and harmony designed to connect deeply with both personal and collective experience.

Crooksstudioart24 blends various art forms to evoke deep emotions.

Experience

Through years of hands-on experience, I’ve developed a multidisciplinary practice that bridges fine art and technical craftsmanship. From working with Metro Arts and assisting on the Churchie Emerging Art Prize to building large-scale installations for HOTA, I’ve gained a deep understanding of how concept and construction intersect. My work spans exhibition curation, installation, and set design, allowing me to collaborate closely with galleries, curators, and artists while refining my own sculptural and material techniques. Each project has strengthened my ability to translate complex ideas into tangible forms, grounding my creative practice in both professional discipline and artistic experimentation.

Art

Craftsmanship

My art is a study of material, emotion, and the unseen dialogue that connects them. I work across sculpture, painting, woodworking, and ceramics to explore the balance between strength and fragility, control and release. Each piece begins as an intuitive response — a gesture, a texture, a thought — and evolves through layers of experimentation and reflection. I’m drawn to the raw honesty of materials, the way wood splinters, clay cracks, or paint bleeds, and how these imperfections become symbols of human experience. Through my work, I aim to capture moments of stillness within movement, tension within harmony — a visual language that speaks to both the inner and outer landscapes we inhabit.

Philosophy

My philosophy is rooted in the idea that art is a mirror of the self — a process of uncovering what lies beneath the surface. I see creation as a form of inner dialogue, where materials become extensions of thought and emotion. Drawing from Jungian psychology and the concept of individuation, I use my practice to explore balance, transformation, and the spaces between chaos and order. Working with materials like wood, clay, and paint allows me to translate the intangible — memories, dreams, and subconscious patterns — into physical form. For me, making art is not just about the finished object, but about the journey toward understanding, where each mark and texture reveals something quietly human.
